Just People
They’re all just people. Just like you and me and everyone we know and love, they too are just people. They have no more energy to be passionate or angry or hostile anymore.
I wish the people who are actually fighting this war would, for once, take a step back and make a decision that will be for the people, and not for themselves. Both sides need to think about these people; just normal, innocent people who have no desire to die for a glamorous cause. I wish that those who are carrying the weapons, will do what it takes to get these civilians out of this mess that they have created. I wish they would just stop. Give it up. Let it go. Someone here needs to compromise. Someone here needs to think of the bigger picture and be the bigger man.
From the Human Rights Watch Report, February 2009:
“When we came to Suthanthirapuram, it was full of dead bodies. Bodies were lying along the road. Nobody cared about them. They smelled. We didn’t have food for two days. We slept in the field.
Some 150 people started out together, but when we tried to leave, at Suthanthirapuruam, the LTTE tried to stop us. There was only a narrow path to leave by. The LTTE caught us. There was fighting, arguments. They were shooting at us. Many people were injured and killed. It was shocking to see. Only 65 were in my group when we came out. We were separated from the rest along the way.
One father was carrying his child on his back. As they were running from the LTTE, he was holding him by the arms so hard-in order not to lose him-that he broke both of the child’s arms.”

sorry if i offend you in following, i really did not want to do that but i had to write this.
this is despicable on your part . why do you continue to morally equate “both sides”. both sides are not doing this .
ltte just has to let ppl it is holding has as human shields go. but you put equal blame on sl governemt and miltary . shameful.
as long as ppl like you remain willfully blind to what ltte is and/or try to excuse them by making government their equal you will makes such morally abhorrent statement like the above .
why do you do this?
you say ppl are not seeing the bigger picture . it is you who is blind to the bigger picture of reality and moral choices
why are you not exploring what happens when your pious wishes to “stop it ” does not come true as it always is with ltte ?
why don’t you come down to earth and say what we should do then? why?.
what does being “bigger man ” in your sense mean?
let ltte do what its wants ? murder when it wants our fellow sri lankans as it used to do even during the so called ceasefire? is that what you want ?
why don’t you admit that ltte is a mass murdering organization and nothing more ? why ?
why don’t you admit that if it does not stop, we have to defeat it and government has the respocibility of doing that ?why ?
why don’t you admit that when using violence to stop ltte, innocent ppl will die inevitably ? why ?
but you don’t
you just wish it will stop and then put the blame on both!
that is shameful , that is running away from responsibility and reality. that is intellectual dishonesty.
that is not seeing the bigger picture, that is not being a moral person ( big or not )
excuses like “oh i just wish good and nothing more”, do not cut it . you have to make a moral choice and take responsibility for it . you don’t
you do not want to face reality . you do not want to see or say what ltte is . you do not like to face upto to what we have to do defeat ltte given what ltte is . you do not like to take responsibility for what we have to do to defeat ltte .
you want no responsibility but do not offer any realistic alternative to ppl who do take that responsibility when faced with reality . you instead blame them and make them terrorists’ equal .
that is despiccable .
your wish that it will stop, is good,
but since it will not stop government should continue its efforts to defeat ltte military capability and leadership in most effective way possible while saving as much lives of civilians held as human shields as possible.
that is the most moral thing to do given the reality. we sri lankan must share in that choice and responsibility . that is the bigger picture of moral honesty and reality you run away from it.

Sittingnut: You need to learn to read through a post before going on your usual, boring, fanatic rant. I’ve heard this argument from you so many times I have half a mind not to say anything. Really, you need to just stop being so hasty in freaking out.
I’m sick of the LTTE. They should give it up. I know that. I can see that. That’s actually what this post was about, although your kind seems to not be able to understand writing if it is not blunt and blatant.
I said, “I wish that those who are carrying the weapons, will do what it takes to get these civilians out of this mess that they have created. I wish they would just stop. Give it up. Let it go. Someone here needs to compromise. Someone here needs to think of the bigger picture and be the bigger man.” I was talking mostly about the LTTE here, although you seem to have failed to see it due to me not mentioning them BY NAME. OK so now I have said it, by name.
This post was not meant to be a informative, factual post. It was written in a different mood and style altogether. It was more driven by emotion, and the writer in me. If that didn’t make my point clear enough, I used an excerpt from the HRW report that was particularly critical of the LTTE and the way it has been treating civilians. You missed all that.
Stop judging me dude, it’s really pissing me off.

thanks for criticism of my comment . it may be all of what you describe.
you are pissed off at my judgment . well i am pissed off at ppl who morally equate ltte and government . you did that above . you cited ltte atrocities and wanted both sides to stop . you see i did read your post carefully .
also by turning blind eye to reality and sticking only to wishful thinking, you try to remove your responsibility to what happens when wishes fail .
you criticize ltte, wish it ( and gov which you hold equally responsible)would stop, but do not want to see that ltte given its nature will not stop Iin other worsd you do not see what ltte is).
you ask ppl to see the bigger picture but don’t want to see what follows when ltte does not stop. you don’t want to admit that gov has to defeat ltte with violence if needs be .( which inevitably include civilian casualties due both to accidents and the way ltte use human shields )
you are in other words intellectually dishonest .
you say the post is emotion driven, but it includes the emotion of running away from responsibility . as does all your posts on the subject
