(arun’s) movie questionnaire

1. Popcorn or candy?
popcorn. salted.

2. Name a movie you’ve been meaning to see forever
godspell.

3. You are given the power to recall one Oscar: Who loses theirs and to whom?
i could name quite a few here, i always disagree with most of the oscars. but, wait. sean penn should give up his 2003 best actor in a leading role academy award (for mystic river) to johnny depp (for pirates of the caribbean)!

4. Steal one costume from a movie for your wadrobe. Which will it be?
can it be a wig? natalie portman’s pink one from ‘closer’.

5. Your favorite film franchise is…
i suppose ‘the lord of the rings’.

6. Invite five movie people over for dinner. Who are they? Why’d you invite them? What do you feed them?
phew, i could answer this one in my sleep. first i would feed them good wine and baked crab. i’d invite : uma thurman, because she’s just gorgeous (in every sense of the word), quentin tarantino, because he’s intelligent and presumably very, very funny (and he won’t be bored because uma wil be there, too), johnny depp, because he is god, jerome robbins because he was my childhood infatuation and tom cruise, so i could poison him.

7. What is the appropriate punishment for people who answer cell phones in the movie theater?
take your goddamn cell phone, and since it’s so important, shove it up your ass and leave it there till the movie is over. and for every movie ever after.

8. Choose a female bodyguard:
i agree with arun completely, the bride from ‘kill bill’. maybe mi ho from ’sin city’.

9. What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever seen in a movie?
the first thing that springs to mind is the original ‘the exorcist’. and for all the scary moments in that film, the one i remember in stark detail still, is her face. her deformed, evil, bloodied up face.

10. Your favorite genre (excluding comedy and drama) is?
i guess i’m not too picky. all i look for is something that grabs me. these have varied in genre.

11. You are given the power to greenlight movies at a major studio for one year. How do you wield this power?
fire tom cruise from every leading role he had ever since he made ‘magnolia’ (this meaning, most importantly that he wouldn’t have made ‘vanilla sky’ and ‘minority report’.)

12. Bonnie or Clyde?
bonnie parker all the way.

and i tag : theena and rhythmic diaspora. is that enough?

  1. Movie quiz. Woohoo

I still don’t get why you said “and I tag : theena and rhythmic diaspora. is that enough?”

    Anyways, to my answers.

    1. Popcorn or candy? Neither, but if I had to choose candy.

    2. Name a movie you’ve been meaning to see forever.

Loads :( I’ll say Straw Dogs for now.

    3. You are given the power to recall one Oscar: Who loses theirs and to whom?

I’ll take the Oscar from the retard who was given best director in 1980 and give it to the man who most deserved it that year: Martin Scorsese for Raging Bull.

    4. Steal one costume from a movie for your wadrobe. Which will it be?

Neo’s full black attire. I don’t like Matrix, but the movie had some fashion sense to it.

    5. Your favorite film franchise is…
None that I can call “favourite”, but LOTR would win over Star Wars simply because Peter Jackson doesn’t make his actors look (and act) like plastic dolls in front of the camera.

    6. Invite five movie people over for dinner. Who are they? Why’d you invite them? What do you feed them?

Do they have to be alive? Assuming the answer is no, then Stanley Kubrick, Orson Welles, David Lean, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Copolla. Assuming the answer is yes, then Scorsese, Copolla, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Jack Nicholson (cause he kicked ass in The Departed).

    7. What is the appropriate punishment for people who answer cell phones in the movie theater?

Depends on the movie. If anyone answered their phone in the midst of 2001: A Space Odyssey, then a life time ban is called for.

    8. Choose a female bodyguard:
    Sigouney Weaver from Aliens.

    9. What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever seen in a movie?
Jack Nicholson’s character in The Shining walking into a supposedly empty hotel room and seeing a beautiful woman come out of the bathtub. She then kisses him passionately before turning into an ugly old woman. I swear I pissed in my pants.

    10. Your favorite genre (excluding comedy and drama) is?
Like with my music, I am past genre picking. If its good, its good. If its shit, its shit.

    11. You are given the power to greenlight movies at a major studio for one year. How do you wield this power?
If Kubrick or Orson Welles was a live, I’d ask him to list down the craziest movie that he had in his mind. I would then give him the budget to do that movie. Since they are both passed away, I’d give that privilege to either Scorsese or Copolla.

    12. Bonnie or Clyde?
    Haven’t watched the movie :( I know

  2. So are we supposed to answer the questions here or do our own post?

  3. hey babe,

tis not my movie meme but Nathaniel’s over at the Film Experience…

Seriously? take away Sean Penn’s Oscar? that’s possibly one of the most deserving wins of the last 6 years. Yes, Murray and Depp were brilliant but I’ve always felt that Penn edged them out. And considering how many mistakes are friends at the academy have made, is it really fair to say Penn’s win is the most egregious? He is the best actor working today…

  5. theena and R : make your own posts!

arun : sean penn is paramount, i agree. but i really thought mystic river was only a little better than average and did the book justice only very mildly. tim robbins was fully deserving of his oscar that year, but sean penn as jimmy versus johnny depp as jack sparrow? jack sparrow was a crazy person, and depp brought him to life with such zest and eccentricity. jimmy is a somewhat normal depiction in comparison to that. i agree, someone shouldn’t win just because they did something more ‘difficult’ than another, but depp did do something more difficult and he did it well. he pushed his own boundaries and it was superb. of course i’m not to decide which was the most egregious, i’ll leave that to you. but i heart johnny depp, and i cannot believe he still doesn’t have an oscar for himself (despite minor mistakes like ’secret window’).

  6. I agree with Arun. Sean Penn should keep the Oscar. Really didnt like Johnny Depp in Pirates. Found it trivial and the jokes predictably silly! Female Body guards Sigourney and Thurman Rock!!! I suppose Lara Croft too could be considered though I must say she doesnt match up to Sigourney and Thurman!A lot of the female roles in Kill Bill were stylish fighters, even Oren Ishi !

  7. o ren ishii is great. too bad she dies in the end. that’s the only reason i would never choose her over beatrix kiddo.

  8. O-ren is all kinds of cool but my heart goes to Elle Driver. Maybe even a little more than it does to the Bride. Well, maybe not the Bride but still…

E, we differ in opinion again. I though Mystic River was excellent- a filmmaker at the top of his game. While I thought Penn certainly deserved his Oscar, I can’t say the same about Robbins. I’m honestly there were any sets left at the end of the film, the way he was chewing through the scenery. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tim Robbins: his performances in The Player, Bob Roberts and The Shawshank Redemption are all wonderful and Dead Man Walking (Penn again!) is a masterwork, BUT his work in Mystic River is waaay over the top. Easily my least favourite performance in the film.
